USASA Snowboard Championships Returns to Copper Mountain Colorado

2012 USASA Snowboard Championships at Copper Mountain

Lodging still available through Gondola Resorts for the competition largely considered the biggest amateur snowboarding competition in the world.

The 2012 United States of America (USASA) snowboard association championships arrive in Copper Mountain Colorado March 31 – April 5, 2012. The annual event promises the very best amateur snowboarders in the country during competition that includes the Superpipe, Slopestyle, Boardercross, Slalom and Giant Slalom over the six days of competition. Although scarce, Copper Mountain lodging is still available through Gondola Resorts.

The annual USASA Copper Mountain event, which draws competitors from around the world, boasts the largest snowboarding competition in the U.S. and has enjoyed great success over the years. It is well known as the precursor to inclusion on the U.S. Olympic Snowboarding Team.

“The USASA competition is one of the premier events of the ski season at Copper Mountain,” said Gino Malara, General Manager of Gondola Resorts. “Our bookings are 150% over last year for condos and luxury homes within Center Village and Lewis Ranch despite the recent warm temperatues we’ve had.”

Lewis Ranch ski/in ski/out at Copper Mtn

As of March 29, Center Village still has 1, 2 and 3 bedroom condos available for rent, according to the Gondola Resorts website. Lewis Ranch, which offers luxury ski in ski out homes also show availability for 4 and 5 bedroom Copper vacation rentals.

Plans for a rail jam event, for kids under 9, will coincide with the competition. Presented by Burton Experience, the rail jam will allow riders an open-jam format with prizes awarded in various categories including best trick.

“This is the first event of its kind. Instead of throwing all the riders together in a rail jam, Burton and USASA wanted this early age group to be able to have an event they could call their own,” said Miah Wheeler, a spokesman for Burton.

Due to temperatures that could reach 50 degrees on Saturday, according to weather.com, practice has been cancelled on the Rail Jam venue on Saturday and all the daytime practice sessions scheduled for Sunday through Thursday are also cancelled. Competitors will still have practice the night of their event from 6 to 7pm, with competition starting at 7pm.

“The temperatures are so warm that the course simply will not hold up with that much traffic during the day”, according to the USASA website. Instead, event officials intend tol keep the course in working order for the night events so the athletes have a safe course for competition. The Lil’ Rascals Rail Jam will still take place on Monday from 1pm-3pm.

For more information, the final schedule of events is listed online at the Gondola Resorts website.

Copper Mountain is 90 minutes from Denver, and within minutes of A-Basin, Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail and Beaver Creek.

Gondola Resorts Announces Headquarters Move to Lower Downtown (LoDo) Denver, Colorado

Location to Provide Proximity to New Light Rail,  Conference and Hotel Space via Office Located at TheOxford Annex

Gondola Resorts Executive Offices

Gondola Resorts, the vacation rental company of choice for ski resorts in Colorado and Utah announced today the relocation of its national headquarters to Colorado in the LoDo district of Denver.  The headquarters also includes its Florida affiliate of Orlando.

The lodging and ski resort vacation rental company will occupy space at The Oxford Annex Executive Suites located at 1616 Seventeenth Street, just across the street from Union Station, and 3 blocks from Coors Field. The new location will provide employees with proximity to transportation hubs and Denver’s thriving local lower downtown business community in addition to RTD’s Light Rail System. Gondola Resorts has been headquartered in Arvada, Colorado since 2008.

“We are escatic to be returning to our roots, and rejoining the Denver business community,” said Gino Malara, General Manager of Gondola Resorts. “The relocation of Gondola Resorts’ headquarters to lower downtown will allow for proximity to convenient
transportation via light rail options, as well as amenities such as conference and hotel space for future Gondola Resorts events.  When the RTD Rail Line is complete, it will
allow for easy access to Denver International Airport and other areas in the Denver
metro area”, Malara said.

In 2011, The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded RTD of Denver with a $1.03 billion Grant for the East Rail Line to Denver International Airport and the Gold Line to Arvada and Wheat Ridge. This was the largest transit grant awarded by the Obama Administration to date.

Denver's future light rail

The 19-acre parcel of land just adjacent to the new Gondola Resorts offices, which
includes the historic station, is forecasted to become Denver’s central transportation hub and a glittery attraction for Lodo.

The $400+ million Union Station project has been coined the biggest transportation  project in North America, and has been in the planning and implementation phase for almost 15 years.

The transportation portion of it, incorporating commuter and light rail, Amtrak,
and commercial and RTD buses, is scheduled to be finished by the spring of 2014.

Gondola Resorts officially began operations in the Oxford office in early December
2010. The organization will continue to provide full check-in offices at all of their resort locations including Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Park City, Orlando, and Telluride, through affiliate partnerships.  The move has allowed the organization to take advantage of the current real estate environment, and provides a cost savings which will help better serve their business needs at 10 different resort locations nationwide.

How to plan a trip to Orlando, Florida

Upon return from any vacation it’s common to discuss how you would do certain things different to save time and money.  Traveling to Orlando, Florida is no different.  With so much to see and do at this magical destination it’s easy to miss opportunities that could save you money or earn you points with the kids.  This magical destination has so much to offer which includes Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, the multitude of shopping malls and tourist attractions.  It’s no wonder there’s over 10,000 books written about this great American destination.  Try not to  fall for the tourist traps and have these seven planning strategies covered:

#1.  How are you going to arrive?  Will it be utilizing the airlines, train, car,  or a bus?  28% of visitors arrive into Orlando international airport, 49% by car and the remainder by other means of transportation.  Orlando has a world class highway system that accomodates automobiles and compliments it with toll roads.  If you plan on to skip the highways, shop for the lowest prices on airline tickets at TravelSpot.  They typically are 5-15% lower than Orbitz or Expedia or the national airline websites.  Our research showed TravelSpot reflected the lowest airlines flights 69% of the time from key hubs like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Denver and Atlanta.

Windsor Palms in Orlando, Florida

#2 Are you bringing  kids? Is the trip more for business? Are you getting married or attending a wedding or maybe you’re taking your company to Orlando. Whatever the reason, be sure to check the attractions appropriate for each age group. The kids probably will not enjoy endless days shopping, so try and stay at a location that offers babysitting service or alternate a park day with a shopping day.
For more of a romantic trip, Orlando has plenty to do.   You’ll have a great selection of nice restaurants to very romantic hotels like the Portofino at Universal Citywalk.

#3.  Are you staying at a  hotel, condo, vacation rental home,  trailer park, RV park?  A national study ranked the value of each accomodation and found surprising results.  Although hotels ranked #1 in convenience to the amusement parks at Disney World and Universal, it ranked dead last in value.  Vacation rental condos and pool homes in Orlando ranked #1.  As a matter of fact, a 7 bedroom home just 5 minutes outside the Disney gates with a private pool was found to have a lower price ($278/nt) than a typical hotel room at Disney World ($327).  The vacation rentals at various resort locations in Orlando were found to have a private pool, video games, pool table, full gourmet kitchen, 7 bedrooms and 2 car garage.  The resort locations that were part of the study in the area included Reunion, Emerald Island, Calabay Parc, Weston Hills, and Indian Creek.

#4.  What time of the year do you intend to arrive in Orlando?  Don’t forget that this area gets hot during the summer months, and that is also the time in which the parks have the most people.  Is standing in line a health issue for you? If that’s the case, you should contemplate visiting in March or April.

#5.  Don’t forget sun block cream.  Orlando boasts hundreds of outdoor activities and you don’t want to ruin your trip with a sun burn. Watch the kids and dab on the sun block at least 4x per day.

#6.  Many parks offer discounted rates to various groups including senior citizens, children, charitable organizations and schools.  Information can be found at http://gondolaresorts.com.

#7. Don’t count on the  public transportation system in Orlando.  Why?  Orlando was ranked the cheapest U.S. city to for car rentals.  It’s typical to rent a mid-size car for $13.00 per day.  Either rent a car or go by cab. The buses are unreliable and there are not many of them.  If you do not know the city it is especially easy getting lost if you take a bus.

Emerald Island rentals just 5 minutes to Disney World

Our top addition in 2010: TELEMARK TOWER

What a vibrant and busy year it’s been for Gondola Resorts.   Our Resort Development team added hundreds of spectacular new condos and homes across Colorado and Florida.  This  made way for a multitude of “Thank You” notes from our dedicated and satisfied guests, which is why we continue to be the preferred rental company in both states. While all of our rentals in 2010 were handpicked, this one new modest ”dream maker” modestly stood-out from its resort counterparts by offering something unique to our guests. See our team’s favorite new rental of 2010.
It should come as no surprise why Telemark Tower is number one for 2010.  It has it all; style, grace, amazing views, luxury, convenience, and direct access to Telluride's world-class winter snow skiing trails.  This is the most dramatic penthouse in all of Telluride and maybe even all of Colorado! This ski-in/ski-out penthouse has over 7,000 square feet of ultra luxury living space in the heart of Mountain Village within a short stroll of the Gondola. Watch the slopes, Wilson Peak Range and endless views from this property at all times! The Telemark Tower has five bedrooms including a master suite with over 2000 square feet. Congratulations to number ONE!

The top 5 condos to rent at Keystone Resort

Keystone Resort Colorado

1.  The Timbers on River Run.  Don’t be fooled. This is the most luxurious, convenient and newest condominium rental property at Keystone Resort in Colorado.  It boasts a “Ritz-Carlton” atmosphere from the time you enter the building and at a fractiion of the price.  Although most of the condos are valued at over $1 million, the rental fees are at least 68% lower than the Beaver Creek Ritz-Carlton Hotel or 49% lower than corresponding BC Hyatt ski in ski out hotel.  Accomodations include 12 person hot tub, private ski lockers, firepit, heated indoor/outdoor pool, spa, steam room, bar and underground heated parking with elevator.  1 bedroom condos start at $199 in the summer and $659 during the Christmas holiday season.  Discounts and specials still can be found at some property management companies.  Don’t worry about hauling your ski equipment across the resort because The Timbers is a true ski in ski out location.  Take the elevator to the second floor and walk out onto the ski slope.  Although it sits back from the main Keystone trail that serves the Gondola, this is actually a benefit.  Noise from the ski grooming tractors at night don’t frustrate those light sleepers!  Another benefit that most vacationers won’t realize…it’s half the size of Lone Eagle which reduced the noise by 50%.  Take it from the locals; The Timbers takes the #1 prize for “best in class”.

2.  Lone Eagle.  Taking the #2 top spot in Keystone is the 5-star ski in ski out luxury of Lone Eagle condominium condos at River Run Resort.  Situated next to The Timbers, Lone Eagle sits directly on the main ski slope that serves the Gondola and River Run Village.  For those interested in watching skiers and snowboarders desperately try to avoid crashing at the bottom of the slope, this is the condo for you!  Of coure, you can book a condo on the “quiet side” of the building for more privacy and solitude.  Lone Eagle is known as one of the best buildings in Summit County and built in 2001.  Accomodations include heated outdoor pool, ski lockers, luxury lobby, spa, gym and 100 yards to River Run Village and the Gondola…all downhill.  Prices are very similar to The Timbers since it’s rated by most travel companies as 5-star and double diamond.

3.  Settlers Creek Town Homes.  Why in the world does Settlers Creek boat the #3 best place to stay in Keystone some may ask?  Well, for those who aren’t afraid of the free Keystone shuttle, this is a hidden gem of gems.  Built in 2006, they are the newest rentals in East Keystone.  No others offer garages in that particular area with the exception of Ski Tip Lodge.  Most of the town home rentals offer more space, also.  A 2-bedroom is 20% cheaper than corresponding River Run Village vacation rentals and have 20% more space.  For a calm, and relaxing atmosphere,  Settlers Creek actually takes the #1 spot.  The neighborhood has it’s own heated pool, hot tub, and private log cabin for group gatherings or parties.

4.  The Springs.  New for 2008-09 season, The Springs is the closest Building to the new River Run Gondola! Springs also offers luxurious amenities for kids. It features it’s own private year-round pool with a slide that winds through the rocks and hot tubs and a zero-entry fountain area.  Remember, this is NOT ski in ski out.  You will still need to walk at least 100 yards to the new Gondola and 150 yards into River Run Village to eat and shop.  Located just east of the village, Springs is a favorite of those travellers that are searching for the very nice accomodations but don’t want to pony-up for the true ski in ski out locations at Lone Eagle and The Timbers.

5.  Chateuax D’Mont.  The Mountain House Base Area is Keystone’s original base area and features one of Keystone’s nicest vintage buildings, the Chateaux D’Mont.  CDM comes in #5 because lovers enjoy the its ever-popular in-room hot tubs.  Will the multitudes of summer weddings, these are the perfect condo rentals for lovers.  The Mountain House area is also a great place for skiers of all ages and has rental shops as well as the largest learning area on the mountain with the Discovery, Poma and Magic carpets all there. For experts and riders, the high speed Peru Express takes you to the top and to the A-51 terrain park.
