Telluride, Colorado ski resort planning guide

Situated in a jaw-dropping canyon with unbelievable views of the San Juan mountains, Telluride Ski Resort offers the newly opened Revelation Bowl.  Just as interesting as the resort, the town of Telluride is relaxed and offers guests several choices for world-class lodging, dining and spas.  “Telluride is in a class all by itself”, says long-time Telluride visitor Gino Malara of Denver, Colorado.  “When I came here with my brothers in 1974, we just laughed.  We joked for years that with one-blink of an eye, we missed the town.  Now, Telluride is like Aspen.  Tom Cruise has a house here in addition to a multitude of Hollywood celebrities and Billionaires from around the world.  The homes available for rent, is really astonishing”, says Malara.  “You can rent an 18,000 square foot ski in ski out home owned by a very well known movie star, and live in luxury for the short-term in this town.  The prices are not that bad”, exclaims Malara.

It also sits on an acre on the top of a knoll, and it has mountain views of the San Sophia ridgeline. There are four bedroom suites, a loft, and a flex-room with a queen-sized Murphy bed in the main home, as well as a dining room large enough to seat 14, and a huge great room with 360 degree views.

Enjoy huge views from this rustic mansion decorated with turn-of-the century antiques, and with all the comforts of 21st century amenities.

Wander into that little slice of mountainous terrain in Southwestern Colorado known as the San Juan Mountains, and if you are fortunate you will descend into Telluride. Surrounded by snowcapped 14,000 ft. peaks, the old village of Telluride is a Victorian delight. The town sits at an oxygen light elevation of 8,800 feet, while adjacent Mountain Village is at 9,500 feet and nestled at the base of Telluride Ski Resort. Blessed with some of the finest skiing terrain on earth, and dusted with over 300 inches a year in average snowfall, this magical setting is a destination for those looking to get away as well as those looking to be noticed.

The quaint little log cabins of yesteryear have given way to modern masterpieces, and none so amazing as Castlewood. A gifted painter could not have imagined a more magical setting than the one surrounding this splendid ode to the woodworking arts. Cascading down the hillside property, the estate covers several levels and houses some of the most impressive amenities available anywhere. The living spaces cover over 17,000 square feet, with another 3,000 square feet of outdoor spaces. Ten bedrooms, ten and ? bathrooms, a guesthouse connected to the main house, and a separate Coachmen?s house provide accommodations for up to 35! The list of amenities is too great to list, but a few that are important to note, are ski in ski out capability from the lower level in the guest house; a massive private theater, a pool table that once graced the Clinton White House; Formal and informal dining rooms; multiple fireplaces; fifteen flat screen TV’s; multi-media hookups; a wine cellar and tasting room; an observation tower; a library; and a grotto like Jacuzzi fed by a natural hot springs!

The chefs out there need to take a special notice of the kitchen space. Or should it be more accurately termed a restaurant kitchen. Local private chefs feel as if they are right at home when creating in this amazing kitchen. Left wanting for nothing, the ample spaces and incredible level of professional fixtures and utensils provide a truly inspiring workspace. Not to be outdone, the outdoor kitchen is equally as well equipped and of course you have the added inspiration of staring at the majesty of the San Juans! Add to this the pre-provisioning option, and you could quite literally check into an already working kitchen.

The list of available amenities runs the gamut from simple guest preparations to the more complex. Available concierge service will assist you with restaurant reservations, lift tickets, transportation, massage, and so much more. Another feature important to note, is the two elevators providing passage from floor to floor.

Indeed, Castlewood is a storybook castle in a fairy-tale setting. Whether you choose the winter wonderland option or the bucolic summertime, the fabulous accommodations and dreamlike settings are sure to live on in your memories, and will certainly call you back. Again and again!

Telluride Blues & Brews Festival Sept 17-19, 2010

The 2010 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival takes place from September 17-19 in Telluride Town Park, an astounding outdoor concert area with jaw-dropping mountain scenery. At the beginning of the concert is the Fred Shellman Memorial Stage, a small, and old wooden stage that has featured and held the weight of huge musical names over the years. When B.B. King played Telluride in 2004, he stood on this same stage, looked out at the mountains before him, and told the crowd, “Out of the 90 different countries I’ve been to, I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than what you have here.” It’s not the altitude that’ll take your breath away. It’s the the overall setting and breathtaking views.

At 8750 feet above sea level, this historic mining city of Telluride acts as a ski-resort  in the winter and the one of the festival capitals of Colorado in the summer, which also includes Vail, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Beaver Creek. Telluride’s main street, just a rocks throw away from the festival area, is home to a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and taverns.  In the evening, after the music stops, people move the festival scene into various music venues located throughout the town of Telluride and Mountain Village. The festival is three days and three nights. Once you get to Telluride, you’re not going to want to leave.

Book your lodging early to get the best deals.  Homes, condos and villas can be found at http://gondolaresorts.com.  For a great deal, checkout the 5-20,000 square foot homes available for rent in the area.
